Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, on i24 News, 11 July 2016. “That UNESCO—the UN education, science and culture organization—should once again be condemning Israel in an Arab-sponsored resolution is both absurd and paradoxical.
Israel is the only country in the region to protect freedom of religion for all faiths, while neighboring Islamic countries persecute, oppress or massacre their religious minorities.
Israel is a world center of education, science and culture, while—as Arab intellectuals said themselves in the Arab Human Development Report of 2003—the Arab world has translated fewer books into Arabic in the past 1,000 years than the amount of books that Spain translates in a single year.
International bodies will never succeed in severing the ancient Jewish bond to Jerusalem; but they may well perpetuate the continued stagnation in Middle East societies that doom millions to ignorance, poverty, unemployment, gender discrimination, and despair.”
